[Illustrated letter from William Orpen to Mrs St George with a sketch of the artist carrying his easel down a hill]
Handwritten letter which Orpen wrote to Mrs St George while on holiday with his family in Howth. The letter has been cropped to remove the text. In the section that remains there is a sketch of the artist carrying his easal and painting equipment down a hill.

Presented by Mrs Vivien Graves to the National Gallery of Ireland in 1974.
From 1909 to 1915 Orpen rented a house every summer at the Cliffs, Howth, where he and his family spent the summer holidays. Orpen often painted out of doors while staying in Howth usually painting members of his family on the beaches and cliffs.
