Croker, Thomas Crofton, 1798-1854
[Album page featuring an account by Thomas Crofton Croker of the circumstances surrounding his acquisition of the album and notes on his friendship with its original owner, Henry Perronet Briggs, with a list of works exhibited by Briggs at the Royal Academy attached]
Handwritten notes mention the sale at which Crofton Croker bought the album, the way in which it was described, and the work of Jacque de Gheyn. Crofton Croker refers to other artistic figures, including Briggs, Northcote, Eastlake and Landseer and includes a list of some of Briggs' principal portraits. Among the sitters for these portraits were the duke of Wellington, Mr Walker the engineer, and Lord Teignmouth. The notes are written in a clear, legible hand. The page attached features a list, compiled by Crofton Croker, of works exhibited by Briggs at the Royal Academy.
