[Illustrated letter from William Orpen to Mrs St George with a sketch of the artist hunting on the reverse]
Handwritten letter, on 8, South Bolton Gardens headed paper in which Orpen informs Mrs St George that yesterday he 'saw Murray off to Canada'. He also mentions that Mr. Bishop is coming, 'Poppy's picture is getting on fairly well and 'Lord Leicester is not going to sit until I come back from Ireland next time'. The letter is continued on the reverse where he writes that Lord Leicester invited him to go hunting which Orpen illustrates in a humorous sketch.

Presented by Mrs Vivien Graves to the National Gallery of Ireland in 1974.
Orpen painted portraits of Claude E. S. Bishop and the Earl of Leicester in 1911. Orpen painted four portraits of Gardenia St George between 1907 and 1910, all at Screebe Lodge, Co. Galway.
