The sketch features Thomas Foster's conjoined monogram on the right-hand side. A note, handwritten by Thomas Crofton Croker in ink above the sketch reads 'Study of a China Jar at Munster House,/ made to be introduced in a/ portrait of Mrs. Croker by'.

Purchased by National Gallery of Ireland from a private collector in London in 2003.
The Mrs Croker referred to in the note must be Rosamund Carrington Pennell, wife of John Wilson Croker. The couple married in 1806. Thomas Crofton Croker did not marry until 1830.
