Croker, Thomas Crofton, 1798-1854
[Album page featuring handwritten notes by Thomas Crofton Croker referring to the handling of Thomas Foster's letters by his friends and correspondence with the Earl of Rosse, with a letter from John Wilson Croker to Thomas Crofton Croker attached]
Handwritten notes, in clearly legible hand, in which Crofton Croker recalls that he, John Banim, William Maginn and Alfred Nicholson met to dispose of Foster's letters, with the exception of those from Thomas Parsons, from whom Foster had recently received a legacy of £1,000. Those letters were sent to Lord Rosse, Parson's brother, who replied that they should be disposed of, as reading them would cause him too much pain. Crofton Croker then recalls a subsequent meeting with the Earl of Rosse.
