Croker, Thomas Crofton, 1798-1854
[Album page featuring two accounts handwritten by Thomas Crofton Croker of the death of Thomas Foster, including references to Edward Leahy, with one letter from Edward Leahy to Thomas Crofton Croker and another from Alfred Nicholson to Crofton Croker attached]
In the text, Crofton Croker continues from the previous page Gerald Griffin's account of Foster's suicide and begins another account of the last hours of Foster's life, based on the details he himself took down in a notebook. In this account, Crofton Croker refers to John Banim, Edward Leahy, a Mr Thompson and Alfred Nicholson.
Crofton Croker Album
37.1 x 26.8 cm.
Ink on paper
Purchased by National Gallery of Ireland from a private collector in London in 2003.
The Mr Thompson to whom Crofton Croker refers may well be the Irish artist Thomas Clement Thompson (1780-1857), a founding member of the RHA who was certainly living in London at that time.
