Presented by Mrs Vivien Graves to the National Gallery of Ireland in 1974.
Andrea del Verrocchio's sculpture, 'Boy with Dolphin' was often adapted by Orpen as Cupid, a symbol of love. It appears in 'The Poet' (1921) and was included in 'To the Unknown British Soldier in France' (1922) but later painted over. Its inclusion in this illustration could be interpreted as representing Orpen's relationship with Mrs St George.
