Welcome to DORAS

DORAS features material from the National Gallery of Ireland’s various archives and special collections. It provides access to images of primary and secondary material relating to key Irish artists, the institution’s own historical archive and rare and antiquarian publications relating to art. DORAS offers the user high quality images and associated information.

Sources

The system incorporates material from the collections of the ESB Centre for the Study of Irish Art, the NGI historical archive, the Yeats Archive & Library, and the NGI Art Library. This material spans a period from the eighteenth century to the twentieth century. As content expands, DORAS will provide access to items such as books, correspondence, photographs, sketches, notes, notebooks, personal effects, video files and other ephemera.

Objectives

The primary objectives of DORAS are to facilitate the preservation of archive and special collections and to increase access by the creation of digital surrogates. The system also encourages the reinterpretation and further study of these collections through its diverse functionality.
